More than 200 graduates were awarded degrees in 8 disciplines offered by the College of Physician and Surgeon of Pakistan at the 53rd Convocation of the institution at the Regional Centre of CPSP on Sunday.
Specialised doctors from KP, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan received their degrees from Surgeon General of Pakistan Lt Gen Khawar Rehma.
Regional Director of CPSP Abbottabad Region Professor Dr Jehangir Khan and Khalid Masood Gondal acting president of CPSP speaking of the occasions said that under the leadership of Professor Zafarullah Chaudhry the president CPSP with the assistants of the its councillors has made CPSP one of the best Institute of the world which is being recognized worldwide and Pakistan has earned name with good repute to be followed in the health care organizations for its quality of work. Replying a question he added that CPSP is self-sufficient and had not increased single penny in the fee since 2008 and meeting expenditures from own resources as currently 15 centres are working in the county and all are linked with centre.
It was told that “CPSP is progressing tremendously in the last 15 years and this national institution had become a symbol of recognition and integrity of the country,” said, Surgeon General of Pakistan Khawar Rehman adding that more than 24,000 fellows and 10,000 members of the college are playing their role in healthcare service delivery.
He continued, “Around 24,000 training doctors will bridge the gap of medics in future. The CPSP is sending its trainees to Ireland and the UK for practical training and exposure to world class institutions for the last five years. These trainees will surely serve the nation on their return.”
Prof Khalid Masood, Senior Vice President of CPSP administered the oath to the new fellows and members. He expressed hope that the new fellows and members will spend their lives in serving the humanity as per their oath. A total of 200 doctors from Punjab, KPK, AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan provinces & Islamabad were awarded fellowships and memberships in Health Professions Education.
The chief guest of the convocation Surgeon General Khalid Rehman praised the meritorious services and achievements of the college. He declared it an exemplary institution. CPSP Gold medals were also given to the best among the graduates.
Council member Professor Dr Jehangir Khan as a chief organizer for this convocation talked about the ethics of profession and urged new specialist doctors to serve ailing people and congratulated the entire CPSP organizing committee for making this event happen in best decorated ways to honour the members and fellows.
Dr Jehangir further told that currently more then 32,thousands specialised doctors are providing service in health care are in 74 disciplines while 28,000 are currently registered and getting their specialized training in different Hospital of the country and also abroad while is conducting examination of specialised doctors in Nepal and Saudi Arabia for the last couple of years.
It was told the specialization will be started in Emergency Medicines in Ayub Teaching Hospital Complex for which BOG of AIMC had granted approval.
Among the participants senior doctors and professors including councillors of CPSP from all over the country which includes Prof Muhammad Shoaib Shafi, Prof. Aamer Zaman Khan, Prof Mahmood Ayyaz, Prof Muhammad Asghar Butt, Prof Muhammad Tayyab, Prof Ghulam Mujtaba, Prof Abrar Ashraf Ali from Punjab, Prof Syed Khalid Ahmed Ashrafi, Vice President, Prof Muhammad Masroor, Prof Ambreen and other council members and seniors with large number of relatives of the graduate doctors.
In the end Professor Dr Jehangir Khan presented a token of thanks to the participants and again congratulated the fellows and members of the college.
